ACCOMODATION FOR FARM LABOURERS.
. ' DEPUTATION TO PREMIER. A deputation consisting of Messrs Larcy and Kennedy, representing the Canterbury Farm Labourers' Union, waited on the Minister for Labour, Hon. W. F. Massey, last week. The members stated that the provisions of the Shearers and Agricultural Labourers' Accommodation Act, relating to agricultural labourers had not been enforced, and urged that inspectors should be appointed, in order that the Act might be put into operation. They also asked that the union should have the right to nominate the inspectors, and that members of (he union should be given power to visit farms for the purpose of having access to workers, as was done in other industries. They stated that the threshing mill contractors in many cases do not provide proper accommodation for their employees. Four or five inspectors were considered sufficient of the Dominion, and the speakers offered to co-operate with the Government in enforcing the Act. Mr Massey replied that he would go carefully into the matter, and endeavour to give effect to the wishes of the deputation.
