N.Z. SPORTS PROTECTION LEAGUE

BOARD OF CONTROL. A meeting of the Board of Control cf the New Zealand Sports Protection League was held in the League's offices, on July 31st. The president, Sir George Clifford, Bart., occupied the chair. The chairman of the Board, the Hen. H. D. Bell, KC.., wrote intimating that before receiving his appointment as Minister for Internal Affairs, he deemed it necessary to resign his position as a member of the Board of thti New Zealand Sports Protection League. He wished the league all success, but regretted that he was obviously competed to sever his association with it. On the motion of the chairman tke resignation was accepted with regret, and the following letter was directed to be conveyed to Mr Bell: —"At a meeting of the Board of Control of the Sports Protection League it was unanimously resolved that your resignation be accepted with regret, the board recognising that it was unvoidable. The board further desires me to express tu you its sincere thanks for all the interest you have taken >n its work, and at the same time, to congratulate you upon your appointment to the office now held bv you." A sub-committea was appointed to go into the matter of proposed amendments to the constitution and to report, after which the rules as amended will be submitted to the branches for consideration.

In regard to a communication from the Oamaru branch suggesting that a donation be given to assist in the effort now being made by the Oamaru public to raise funds for the purpose of forming a recreation, ground, it was resolved to reply that the board were in sympathy with the project, but regretted that funds were not available. The matters, however, was one for the local branch of the league to take in hand. With regard to a communication from the South Canterbury branch of the league, in which they drew attention to the fact that the Government tax from their club for the season totalled £783, which was a heavy drag on the Club's resources, and asking that the league assist in having the tax placed on a more equitable basis, the president intimated that the Racing Conference was approaching the Minister for Internal Affairs on the subject, and the case would be strongly represented without the necessity of the league's intervention in the meantime.

A deputation was appointed to wait upon the Minister for Internal Affairs with respect to a request from the Te Aroha branch of the league with regard to assistance desired in connection with the proposed addition of new bow'ing rinks on the Te Aroha Domain.
