FARMERS' UNION.
Some of the remits forwarded by the Auckland provincial executive of the New Zealand Farmers' Union for consideration at the eleventh annual Dominion conference in Wellington to commence on Tuesday, July 30th, are of considerable interest. Among the number are the following:— That this union urge the Government to adopt a vigorous laid settlement policy, so that any suitable land, wholly or partially unused or unoccupied, whether held by the natives, by the Crown, or by private individuals, may be made available under the optional system for close settlement in sufficient areas to meet the requirements of all genuine settlers. That a committee be appointed by the Dominion Conference to consider and draft a scheme of Government by elective exetutive for this country, in order that the Farmers' Union may be able to enter on an active campaign to bring this principle clearly before the electors of this Dominion. That the time has arrived when all distinctive legislation fur the Maori race be repealed, and that the Maoris be placed, in all respects, on the same footing as their white fellowcitizenß, having the same privileges and also responsibilities. That steps should be taken to end preferential freights on railways and all protection should be through the Customs, if protection is necessary.
That all travellers on the New Zealand railways should have the benefit of the suburban fares.
State support to the Sedgwick emigration scheme, and a vigorous immigration policy to be adopted for the introduction of the agricutural labourer class.
That the Government be requested to enact that hospital and charitable aid boards be the recipient of all auctioneers, public house, and motor vehicle licenses.
That it be a recommendation to the Government to remove the protection from the oppossums. That land agents be legalised and licensed, the same as auctioneers are licen&ed.
