The usual monthly meeting of the Taranaki Land Board was held on Tuesday, 16th inst., when there were present—The Commissioner of Crown Lands (Mr G. H. Bullard), in the chair, and Messrs J. Heslop, J. Rattenbury, and J. McCluggage. TRANSFERS.

T. Aston applied for part of the Tangitu township reseive fronting his section, and the board agreed to the proposal, the land being based on a capital value of £4 per acre. W. H. Jury will be informed that the board cannot see its way to grant him a temporary lease of section 77, block 4, Paritutu. E. Erlandson wrote protesting against the termination of his lease of sections 49 and 51, block 4, Paritutu, and the buard decided to cancel the previous notice terminating the tenancy. The Ohura County Council applied to have the Crown lands, Waro, put on the market aa early as possible.— The matter was left in the hands of the commissioner. P. M. Long applied to lease part of the Whangamomona township reserve. —Deferred for ranger's report, A. Cameron applied for a refund of part of the rent paid on section 4, block 8, Upper Waitara, surrendered by him.—lt was resolved that the matter be dealt with when the land is again selected. ' R. F. Beautrais appealed against the forfeiture of section 3, block 12, Mapara feiture be confirmed and that the land be offered for selection. Janet Eids wrote stating that she would have to forfeit section 4, block 7, Waro, as 'she was unable to live on it.—Resolved that if she can within six months find a landless person to whom a transfer can be effected at a reasonable consideration to be approved by the board it will be recummended, owing to the expenditure upon improvements; or that she be allowed to admit her husband to partnership provided he resides on the land.

The Ohura branch of the New Zealand Farmers' Union applied for land near Mangaroa to be opened for workers' homes.—The matter was left in the hands of the Commissioner. E. Tolme, ranger, reported on the inspection of 18 hodings. The improvements required were £2904, effected £6199. Two were in default lor improvements and residence and two for improvements alone. J. Andrew applied for extension of time for his family to reside on section 15, block 1, Tangitu—Six months' extension granted. W. Wimmell applied for freehold of section 23, block 4, Ngatimaru.—Approved conditionally upon the requirements of the Public Works Department as to railway being provided for. A. T. Macalpin applied for the freehold title of section 11, bllock 12, Waitara, to issue as he had completed improvements. Passed subject to verification of value of improvements by ranger. The Waitomo County Council applied to pledge thirds for payment of j interest on loan in area special rating area.—Deferred for report. GENERAL BUSINESS. The Commissioner (Mr G. H. Bollard) advised the board that its action in making tha granting of improved farm leases conditional on the redemption of the sale had been approved. It was resolved that a copy of A. Barnett's letter, asking that part of the thirds from section 2, block 9, Aria, be diverted to another part of the Waitewhena road between the above section and section 1, block 1, Ohura, be forwarded to the county council, and that it be informed that the board requests that the desire of the applicant be given effect to. It was decided to dispose of the eastern part of Bection 4, block 10, Ngatimaru, to M. O'Neill, at a price of £1 per acre,

A license of section 10, block 11, Mapara, was issued to W. J. Wainwright under the usual conditions.

Ranger Twiss reported on small grazing runs 661 and 662, Patea district, the leases of which expire on August 31st, 1913. —The report was adopted, and the board resolved that new leases be offered tn the present lessees in terms of section 209 of the Land Act, 1885.

The ranger' report on the upset prices of sections in the town of Whangamomona was adopted, and it was resolved that the sections be offered for sale by public auction for cash, the present temporary tenants to be allowed one month from date of sale to remove any buildings. It was decided to recommend the Government to hold the ballot for sections in the Mapara and Tangitu survey districts at the same time and place as the Matitokarua block, and that the ballot be fixed for Friday, September 6th, 1912, at Taumarunui. T. Harrington appjied for a lease of section 16, block 12, Hawera, for another tenure.—The lease expires in May, 1912, and the board resolved

Moasman applied to exchange part of his land, section 8, block 15, Aria, for part section 20, block 15, but the que3tion was deferred for the ranger's report. The Whanagmumona Defence Rifle Club applied for a lease of section 22, block 1, Mahoe, as a rifle range for join use of territorials and rifle club. —Deferred for ranger's report. Messrs Standish and Standish, solicitors, wrote on behalf of E. Marfell, the purchase of the right-of-way betv.een the closed part of the Omata road an another closed road.— Mr Marfell will be allowed to purchase the land subject to the va'uatjon in terms of section 131 of the Land net, 1908.
