A Californian traveller reports that Francisco Suarez, w«th a strong native force, baa established control at Beni. on the river Amazon, ana exacts rubber from the natives under terrible atrocities if they fail to fulfil his j demands. . , The general indignation felt at the revelations in regard to the Pqtumavo rubber atrocities was voiced in the House of Commons, when many questions on the subject were asked. The replies of Mr F. D. Acland, Under-Secretary for Foreign confirmed the previous statement that there are no Britishers amongst the guilty parties. The Peruvian Amazon Company, it was stated, is in liquidation, and it is therefore difficult to make it answerable to the law. „ . The Government, Mr Acland added, is prepared to co-operate with the United States to exert pressure on Peru to bring the criminals to justice.
