MIKADO DYING.

A LONG-STANDING ILLNESS. Telegraph— Press Association— OopyrigHt Tokyo, Sunday. The Mikado is seriously ill and his condition at midnight last night was critical. The Emperor's stomach and brain are affected. He was unconscious yesterday. His illness is closely related to a long-standing disease of the kidneys. The Emperor was delirous and in a high fever yesterday. He is drowsy to-tiay. There is a constant stream of callers at the palace, and prayers are being offered at the Buddhist temples and Russian Cathedral for the Mikado's recovery. The earlier bulletins were viewed with misgivings owing to the custom, now less frequent, of postponing announcements of death. Prices on the Stock Exchange fell five points yesterday, but rallied at the clo^e.

Tolcio, Monday. To-day's bulletin concerning the Mikado's health is pessimistic in tone. He is now in a worse condition than yesterday, and little hope of his ultimate recovery can be held out. NO HOPE HELD OUT. Tokyo, Tuesday. It is generally recognised that the Emperor is dying from diabetes, complicated by enteric, and no hope is held out by his medical advisers. His temperature is now 100 and his pulse 96, and his breathing is at the rapid rate of 38 to the minute. He slept soundly last night, and took slightly more nourishment to-day. The Emperor's illness has caused a profound sensation. The theatres have been closed and all traffic around the palace has been stopped. In consequence of the Mikado s condition Prince Katsura. who is on a j mission to Europe, will return to Japan forthwith.
