TE KUITI BOROUGH COUNCIL.
A meeting of the Te Kuiti Borough Council was held last evening. There were present —His Worship the Mayor and Crs Forsyth, Flovu, Falwasser, Tammadge, Finlay and Lusk. Leave of absence was granted to Cr Julian. Waiteti Road.—Cr Forsyth said he had instructed the Borough foreman to mecsure up and estimate the amount necessary to complete the contract The foreman estimated the amount to be £32 6s. and it was resolved that the contractor be paid the amount of the contract in addition to the sum of £l7 10s for extras suter deducting the amount of tha toreman's estimate. Reticulation. — The foreman reported that ha had measured up the work done which had aggregated 275 chains 53 links. Mr Rothery, the contractor, applied for his 75 per cent, payment on the contract. Cr Forsyth said he had instructed the foreman to measure up. There was a valve near the Chronicle office which he considered should be straightened up before payment was made. —Resolved that the contractor be requested to straighten the valve and that the 75 per cent, payment be made. „ TT . Drainage Contract.—Mr H. H. Metcalfe recommended that as the d'auiage works were completed, with the exception of the septic tank and that as with the present state of the river it would be impossible to complete the tank for some time, the contractor should be relieved of his contract and the amount of £l2O deducted for completing the septic tank. Power House. —The plan of the land for the power house was received from the chief surveyor.—Resolved that it be handed to the Borough solicitor. Sub-division. —The scheme of roading for Mr A. McCardle.'s property was submitted and approved. The scheme of roading submitted by Mr Robison was also approved. _ Cr Forsyth moved and Cr Floyd seconded that in future all plans submitted for the approval of the Council should be drawn out by an authorised surveyor.—Carried. # Crookes, engineer for the electrical installation, wrote stating hj« was inviting tenders for the work this week.
—Received. Morgue.—Gr Finlay drew attention to the necessity of having a morgue erected and suggested that in erecting the power house it would be wise it possible to leave sufficient room for the building mentioned so that it could be erected when it was deemed expedient. The other councillors concurred. J. Dawson, electrician, wrote from Dannevirke' with respect to the fire alarm installation. • He stated that he had been electrician to the Wellington and Petone Fire Brigades for a number of years and offered to bring along his fire alarm Lox and give a demonstration. —Received. Ministerial Visit.—lt was resolved that the sum of £5 be granted towards the fitting reception of the Hon. W. Fraser. Minister for Public Works. H. J. Moffitt wrote with respect to engaging a man to run the engine at the stone crusher.- The foreman was instructed to employ a man to run the engine for the crusher J. McPherson wrote intimating that he would accept the sum of £5 and withdraw his tender for the'permanent
levels. —Received. G. C. Branson wrote asking for a quotation for hire of hall during certain days with 'or without piano.— Left to town clerk to attend to. L. E. Brathwaite and Co. wrote offering to sell six acres of land to the Borough as a recreation ground. —Declined. . . A. Goile wrote granting permission for the Council to put a drain through bis property.—Received, and Mr Goil° was thanked for his offer. L. Jacob wrote urging the construction of a traffic bridge to connect Rarongo street and Sheridan street. The same writer also drew attention to the insanitary s f ate of the east end of Te Kuiti owing to insufficient drainage. Cr Forsyth said he did not think the Council was in a position to undertake the work. He owned property in the locality and would be prepared to contribute towards a bridge. If the work could be done that way he would support it. . , Cr Floyd 'advocated boirowing for the bridge. Cr Falwasser said he thought attention should be given to the request. There were a number of people living in the locality mentioned and he thought they would be prepared to pay for a Bpecial loan for a bridge. Gn the motion of Crs Forsyth and Floyd it was decided that the matter be further considered when the new loan proposals were under consideration. C. Chilcott wrote pointing out the cause of flooding of low lying portions of the town neat his place and sug> gesting that the opening of a cave into which the stream flowed shoulc ' be opened.—Referred to the Worki 1 Committee. John Ashworth wrote quoting s price for drain connections. Re ceived.
