London, Thursday. The Australians commenced a match against Leiceistershiro at Leicester to-day. Rain fell during the morning, and the match wag played in cloudy weather, the wicket being softish. Leicester won the toss and bntted first, the stand being only a moderate one. Knight and Wood opened, tho former being caught; at the wicket atfer making 20. Wood an:l Mounteney added 41 for the second wicket, Mounteney playing vigorous cricket until Emery caught and bowled him for 23.

Coe and Wood added 53 Tor tha sixth wicket, Coe cutting six fours. Wood, who opened the innings, wai the seventh batsman out, being caught in the slips from a kicking ball which came off hia hand. Ho batted 130 minutes for 53, his display being faultless, and included four fours. The century was raised in 5 minutes, and 200 after 145 minntrs, the innings lasting 155 minutes. AUSTRALIANS HATTING.

The Australians lost Juiininga early, being taken off a sharp chance at third slip. Mayne and Smith hoisted 50 after 52 minutes.

Bardsley and Maytie added 50 for the third wicket, Mayno culting nicely. He batted 80 minutes tor 46, and gave a chance when two. The Australians batted in an indifferent light. The attendance totalled 2000. Scores: —

Received July 20, 10.20 a.m. London, Friday. In consequence of rain there was no play in the morning. After lunch the colonials resumed their innings on a soft wicket. Bardalcy, in pulling the fifth ball, was caught at short leg. Gregory played a ball from King on to his wicket. Minnett and Matthews did not last long. Whitty scored two sixers and three fours in short order, and Kmery made 2E> in fifteen minutes, scoring two sixers. Kelleway's 87 runs were compiled without a chance being given. The innings totalled 327.
