DISTRICT REQUIREMENTS.

The following repliea to representations made by Mr C. K. Wilson, member for the district., have been received from Ministers in connection with the works mentioned:— KAIRIMU ROAD. "Referring to your representations regarding the condition of the Kairimu road, I have to state that I have now obtained a report upon the matter and find that the vote of £4OO which was authorised to the resident engineer has been practically all expended. He has a balance of authority amounting to some £3O odd which is being utilised in effecting improvements to the road. The question of providing further moneys, however, will receive my careful consideration when the Public Works Estimates are being compiled next session.—W. D. S. MacDONALD." WAIPA RiVER BRIDGE, KAWA ROAD. "Referring to your further letter regarding the Waipa river bridge and to the complaints of the settlers that the provision made upon the Public Works Appropriations for this work is in the nature of a £1 for £1 subsidy' I have to refer you to my letter of the 29th April, wherein it was explained that as the vote was provided by Parliament as a £1 for £1 subsidy, and the local bodies are unwilling to furnish the local quota nothing can in the meantime be done. The question of providing a straight-out grant for the erection of the bridge will be considered when the Public Works Estimates are being compiled this session, but I am unaware of any promise having been made that the Government would provide the whole amount required.—W. D. S. MacDONALD" ROAD PROM WAIMIIIA TO ARIA TOWNSHIP. "The letter from Mr C. Ericksson, of Te Kuiti, re survey of road in the Mvkauiti Valley to join the road to Aria, which you left with the Hon. W. D. S. Mac Donald on the 22nd ult., has been referred to me, and in reply I have to inform you that steps are now being taken to have this road surveyed.—THOS. MACKENZIE."
