FOOTBALL.
MANIAPOTO v. WAIPA. The first inter-union game of the season will be played at Te Kuiti on Saturday next when the Waipa Union representativae will meet the pick of the Maniapoto Rugby Union. A keen contest is anticipated as the Waipa players have always been recognised as a strong combination. This season the Maniapoto Union is probably stronger than in any previous year and a good selection should be made from the full strength of the union. Mr W. J. Worthington, of Otorohanga, has been appointed sola selector for Maniapoto. The Waipa players will arriva atTe Kuiti at 11 a.m. and play will commence at 2.30 p.m.
The following will represent Maniapoto against Waipa, at Te Kuiti, on Saturday next: Full-back.—Killop. Three-quarters. -- R. Clarke, P. Turner, Matthews. Five-eighth.—Jas. Clarke. Half.—Sturmey. Fowards. Healey and Charteris (wings), McKay, T. Emery, Hornibrook, Maxted, Reed, E. Turner, Hayson. Emergencies.—Back, Maher; forwards, Rehi, Paul, Tane.
MANIAPOTO RUGBY UNION.
The management committee of the above union met in the Chronicle office on Monday evening last, Mr N. C. Matthew in the chair.
The secretary of the South Auckland Rugby Union wrote asking the Maniapoto Rugby Union to express their views as to the number of selectors that should be appointed, and also asking them to nominate a selection from their union.—Resolved to suggest that three selectors should be appointed, and that Mr N. B. Lusk be nominated for this end of the district. A ballot resulted in Kaeaea being drawn to meet Aria at Kaeaea in the second round of the B section matches, Pio Pio to play Aria at Aria on July 20th. Resolved that Mr W. J. Worthington be appointed selector for representative matches. Resolved that the by-laws be printed forthwith. Mr Burke was appointed referee for Saturday next in the rep. mutch against the Waipa Union. A protest entered by the Waimiha Club in their match against Te Kuiti was discussed at length.—lt was finally resolved that the protest be not upheld. Resolved that a fixture be arranged between the Te Kuiti and Waimiha clubs, to be played at Te Kuiti as soon as an available date is forthcoming. A player was reported by the referee in the Mangapehi - Waimiha match for using insulting language on the field. —After discussion it was resolved that the player in question, Kohinga, be disqualified for the rest of the season. Messrs Pitcon and Fergus were appointed gate keepers for Saturday pext. < Ic was decided that the local union entertain the Waipa team to tea with a smoke concert to follow. A sub-committee was drawn up to make arrangements.
