TE KUITI BOROUGH COUNCIL.
The ordinary meeting of the Te Kuiti Borough Council was held last evening. There were present—His Worship the Mayor, and Crs Forsyth, Floyd Young, Tammadge and Finlay. k Apologies were received for the ab- ' sence of Crs Falwasser and Julian.
Te Kumi Road Railway Crossing.— The resident engineer of railways wrote stating he would endeavour to have the crossing formed and completed early in the spring. Valuation of Borough.—Mr H. A. Ellison, district valuer, wrote in reply to an enquiry from the council recommending that the council should make application to the Valuer-Gene-ral for a revision of the borough valuation.—Received, the recommendation to be given effect to. Pukenui 2 D, No. 7 B.—Messrs Earl and Kent and Howarth wrote undertaking to indemnify the Council from all costs incurred in applying for a public crossing over the railway line. —Resolved that application be made. Travers' Upper Road.—Mr R. C. Jordan wrote requesting that a certfiicate be granted that the work on the road had been satisfactorily completed.—Referred to the Works Committee with power to act. H. Christian wrote requesting that the hall be hired to him every Friday for a period of six weeks.—Resolved that the clerk deal with the matter. Rora Street. —J. Markham wrote requesting that the portion of Rora street between the Skating Rink and the school should be repaired as-''he had to drive over it four nights a week —Resolved that the road be repaired by the Council as soon as possible.
Dog Registration.—The dog tax collector reported that dog taxes for dogs owned in the borough were being collected by the Waitomo County Council, and that owners were refusing to register with the borough in Cunsequence. motion of Crs Finlay and Floyd that
the collector be instructed to sue all borough residents who refused to register their dogs with the Borough Council.
Permanent Levels.—Mr McPherson wrote with respect to the work of taking the permanent levels of the town and stating that he had been unable to get anything definite respecting a contract. —The clerk was instructed to Mr McPherson. Stone Crusher.—Cr Forsyth said, to bis mind, the Council was in the hands of E. Porter and Co. He moved that Messrs Porter and Co. be requested to put the crusher in proper working order. —Seconded by Cr
Floyd and carried. Waiteti Road. —Mr R. McGowan waited on the Council with respect to the contract, and produced a notice from the engineer terminating the contract.—lt was resolved on the motion of Crs Finlay and Floyd that the engineer be instructed to value the work and furnish a final certfiicate.
Electric Installation. —Cr Young drew attention to the fact that considerable delay was being occasioned in dealing with the matter of calling tenders.—On the motion of Crs Finlayj and Forsyth the clerk was instructed* to write to Mr Crookes requesting him to expedite matters in connection with having the installation put in at the earlist possible time. Refuse Disposal.—Cr Finlay referred to the disposal of refuse. He
suggested that business people and others should keep dust boxes in order to have the refuse systematically disposed of on recognised days He suggested that a by-law should be enacted making the matter compulsory. A small charge on each ratepayer would meet the case and he felt sure such a service would be widely appreciated and it would be in the interests of health. Cr Young supported the puggestion. It was, he said, a matter of system. Another feature whs that the contractor had difficulty in collecting his fees. Cr Forsyth said he thought the Council should make an example of some of the defaulters in respect to the night
, soil removal. —It was decided to. re,ifer the matter to the Sanitation Committee. Rora Street.—Cr Floyd referred to the dirty Btate of Rora street. He said a great amount of rubbish was noticeable in the main street. —Cr Forsyth explained that the surfacemen was kept very busy on urgent work.
