LONDON WOOL SALES. / _____ ADVANCE IN PRICES. London, Wednesday. The third of the season's wool sales has opened, to'-day'B catalogue comprising 8125 bales. A miscellaneous selection, inluding 5163 bales of New Zealand wool, was offered. The attendance was very large and the competition was animated. Fine crosshreds brought 10 per cent, above the closing rates of the May sales; medium showed from five to 7J per cent, increase (due to American competition), and coarse showed from par to five per cent, advance (due to Home demand). Merinos were firm. Sellers favour Che sales being arranged to last until Augast 2nd, but the labuur troubles are likely to cause a considerable curtailment. DETAIL OF ADVANCES. WelligPtou, Wednesday. The following cablegram bas been received from the High Commissioner's office in London under date July 2nd:—"The wool galea have commenced, and despite the Btrike a full catalogue has been sown. To-day there was a large attendance at Home and Continental and'several American buyers. Competition waß very animated, and prospects* are favourable.
Merino wool is a half penny per pound, medium crossbreds a half penny, fine crossbreds three-farthings, and coarse crossbreds a farthing higher than the closing rates of last sales. There are 150,007 bales of New Zealand wools offered. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., report:— At- Hamilton on 27th ult., fat wethers made 17s 9d, forward wethers 14s 4d to 15s 9d, fat ewes lis 9d to 12s 6d, dairy cows £5 15s to £7 ss, springing heifers £7, killable cows £5 2s 6d. At Ngaruawahia on l 28th ult., 518 head of cattle came forward, includ ing 2003 to 4 year steers. Prices — Grown steers in forward condition £7 lis, 3J year steers £5 14s to £6 10s, 3 year steers £5 4s to £5 7s 6.d, fat cows £5 9s to £6 17s, 18 months empty heifers £3 J2s 6d to £3 19s, yearling heifers £2 7s to £2 12s 6d, mixed calves 34s to 41s, 3 year heifers in calf £6 to £6 12s 6d, dairy cows £5 to £5 17s 6d, 2 tooth wethers 9s. At the clearing sale held near Matamata on Ist inst., on account of Messrs R. and W. Joughlin dairy cows made from £7 to £9 15s, heifers in calf £5 10s to £6 10s, vehicles etc., at usual rates. Mr Mr F. S. Roberts' sals on the same day,-near Taupiri, dairy cows sold at from £6 15s to £9 10s, heifers in calf £5 12s 6d to £7, fat cow £5 to £6, calves 41s. 18 months heifers £3 7s, draught foals £6 to £lO 10s, light mare and foal £2l. At Mr J. C. J. Elmsly's'hear Kihikihi, on 26th ult., there was a large attendance. Prices —Dairy cows £6 to £9, aged and unsound cows £3 15s to £4 ss, empty cows £3 ss. horses £9 to £9 15s, ponies £3 12s 6d to £4, implements and furniture at good values.
