The Australians met Lancashire in the return match at Liverpool on July 4th. The wicket was soft and difficult. The colonials scored 183 in the first innings—Gregory 58, Bardsley 37, Jennings 30, and Macartney 18, being the double figure scorers. The county team made 163—Sharp 60 and Spooner 44 being the chief scorers.

The Australians in the second innings were dismissed for 94— Bardsley 15 and Matthews 35 not out top scoring. Macartney and Smith were foolishly run out. Lancashire made the necessary 115 for the loss of two wickets.—Spooner 66 not oqt, and Makepeace 35.
