TE KUITI BOROUGH COUNCIL.
The usual meeting of the Te Kuiti Borough Council was held last night. There were present —his Worship the Mayor and Crs Forsyth, Floyd, Young, Lusk, Somerville and Falwasser. An apology was received fcr the absence of Cr Julian on account cf indisposition.
Cr Lusk was appointed representative to the Municipal Conference to be held in Wellington on July 29th, 1912. . Considerable discussion took place over the condition of Waiteti ruad. It was resolved that the present contractor receive the sum of £SO in acidition to the original price of contract providing fascining, fiLing and pumicing being earned out in a satisfactory manner. The work must be proceeded with at once. Resolved that the matter of supplying Te Kurr.i kainga and sanitary depot with water be left in hands of Sanitary Committee and Cr Lusk. Resolved that the procuring of all material necessary for securing proper levels for the borough be pro cured, the consulting engineer to supervise. The town clerk was instructed to direct that all applications for water connections (treated in order received) be carried out without further reference to council. The patter cf repairing the break in w3l cTin 31 n, at Waiteii, was left in the hands of the engineer to secure a permanent job. Resolved that a letter of appreciation be forwarded to Miss Melling for her very material assistance as librarian of the old library, and the generous aid given by her in the formation of the new public library. Resolved that a special meeting of the council be held Monday evening, -lur.e 28th. to consider joint report from the Finance and Works Committees; the raising of new loans for completion of borough works, and the striking of a general rate far the ensuing year. Cr Ycung referred to the matter of the necessity of new loans and thy desirability cf placing of the financial position clearly and straightforwardly before a general meeting of the ratepayers. He recognised that the position had to be faced, and the time was opportune tor the meeting in order to enable the completion of the work earlv in the spring. Other councillors recognised the wisdom of the step.
Three applications for the position of caretaker for the Municipal Chambers were received and F. J. Edgar received the appointment at a salary of £ 1 P ~week. Resolved that the Education Board be written to advising that the Council was prepared to carry out the work in the school ground for the sum of £SO as estimated by the consulting engineer. The deplorable state of the Awakino road was'brought under the notice of the council by Cr Floyd, who strongly urs;ed that the immediate repair of the road be undertaken. The overseer was instructed to attend to'the repair of the road at once. The question of general roading will receive attention at the combined meeting of the Finance and Works Committee next Friday evening.
