AMUSEMENTS.

ROMAN CATHOLIC SOCIAL. A SUCCESSFUL FUNCTION. The Catholic Socials Committee has reason to be grateful for the marked success of the concert, social and dance, in face of a spell of bad weather and many other obstacles. The concert items were of a genuinely high class, as was evidenced by the close attention of the audience and the many encores. The floor was excellent and the music very pleasing to the dancers. Supper was served about 11 p.m. and both in the fare provided by Mr Thomson and the special order and method of serving adopted by the floor committee, plessrue was given to all. Regarding the music, the committee isTdeeply indebted to Mrs Gardiner, of Puketsrata, who certainly bore the brunt of the work of accompanying. Hisses McKay and Morgan, with Messrs McDonald and Lipscombe,

ably seconded her efforts. It is safe to allot the lion's share of the success to * - the splendid working committee. It is as well also to acknowledge that the secretary, Mr Pat. Cotter, is no novice in' social matters. He piloted the sucial through great difficulties, before the gathering and acted in every department on the floor. Mr P. Mora was a very good stage and floor M.C. In conjunction with these Mrs McNaught and Mrs Morgan did valuable, if unobtrusive, work on the Working Committee. To Mrs E, Kerr hearty thanks were offered, and rightly, for her generous loan of the excellent piano. Other workers are not forgotten. A concluding meed of thanks is due to Mr Pat Lyon?, who, in conjunction with Mr P. Bxckett, vigilantly kept the doors,' and to Messrs Cotter.Kneebone, Tierney, and L. Quirk, who spent their afternoon preparing the floor. In a word it is strictly right to say all seemed to thoroughly enjoy themselves, things going with a swing and every patron was asked to be, and certainly seemed to be, quite at home. The gathering somehow had the "bios," the smack of a real, jolly, old country "ceilid."

FULLERS' PICTURES,

A change of programme was preBentecfcat the Rink on Thursday evening, the programme including a number'of interesting films. A sensational Western drama entitled "Captain Brand's W 7 ife" abounded with stirring incidents, and the scenic films "A°Trip to the Samoan Islands" and "Along the Sea Shores of Italy" were much appreciated by the audience. Another complete change will be given next Thursday, when the managemfitit offer ins to the person sitting in the seat which has been picked out by the editor of the Chronicle.
