KIRITEHERE-MOEATOA.
Own Correspondent
Local settlers are running up a private telephone line from Kiritehere to connect with the Government line at Moeatoa, where a switch will be placed. Erickson machines —as supplied to tha New Zealand and sold by the Telegraph Department, will be used, which are supprior to the ordinary "wooden faced" telephones usually used for this purpose. Proper tele phone wire and Sinclair insulators ' have also been included in the' order, which will come toihand any day now. Someone whose wit does not rise above the primitive, has been circulating a story the gist of which is that the Telegraph Department, Auckland, is giving out £5 telephones "gratis" to grateful settlers who need only"write up and ask." Most people will usually wait a long time for something but in this case we think they will wait a long time for nothing.
