A ROWING CONTEST.
Marokupo, Tuesday. The tenth contest for the Willison Cup, rowed on the MaroUopa waterway on Saturday between FI. Richards and R. Neilson, resulted in an easy win for Richards, who wa3 successful for the third time.
In response to representations by Mr C. K. "Wilson, member for the district, the following letter has been received from the Hon. A. M. Myers, Minister for Railways:—"With reference to your representations urpinß that first-class accommodation should bo provided on the 11.15 a.m. good* train running between Ohakune and Frankton, I have the honour to inform you that a careful watch Ihb been kept in respect to the number of passenßera travelling hy this train, and it is ascertained that except on Saturdays the passenger traffic is small and the journeys usually made very short. A second-class cur in two compartments is used, and as far ab possible the Maoris travelling are kept together in the smoking compartment. To provide nnother c«r on the train would materially affect the load, and in the circumstances I regret that the request cannot be acceded to at the present time."
