Downs, and in j Western Queensland. j Adelaide, Monday. I Stdennid rains have fallen in the northern districts, where a drought was threatened, SITUATION SAVED Sydney, Tuesday. The drought has fairly broken. Practically every station in the State reports light to heavy falls of rain, and that it is still raining. The wheat areas in the Riverina and elsewhere have had a fall of up to 2in, whilst the drought-stricken pastoral areas in other parts of the State have had from Jin to 2Jin. The position, so far as the wheat crops are concerned, is saved, and the mortality of stock has ben arrested, especially as the rain has been accompanied by warm temperatures. As a result of the rain, wheat quotations have dropped to 4s 2£d and 4s 3d. Flour and foodstuffs are unchanged. As a set-off to the optimistic view it is pointed out that the rain is somewhat late to fu'ly benefit the wheat and a big proportion of the lambs. Many of the breeding sheep have already been killed by the drought. If severe weather follows, much of the stock in poor condition will succumb. It is estimated that the rain is worth millions to New South Wales alone, and in the other States the rain is equally valuable. Latest reports state that rain is still falling. Many orders for trucks to move starving stock have been cancelled.
