TOTALISATOR INVESTMENTS.
BIG FIGURES AT ELLERSLIE.
Another racing season in Auckland having been brought to a conclusion at Ellerslie, the situation is now open fur full review, and the totalisator receipts offer an interesting channel for exploration. During the season the Auckland Racing Club held four meetings, extending over 11 days, and the sum handled at the totalisaturs in connection therewith amounted to £366,989 10s, This represents an increase of £97,761 10s compared with the preceeding season, which, it is worthy of remark, embraced two days more racing. In considering the figures it has to be noted that bookmakers had the right to bet last season at the spring and summer meetings, while this season the machine has been the sole vehicle for investment, which circumstance is, of course, responsible to a great extent for the large total recorded. The full totalisator figures in connection with the meetings held at Ellerslie during this and the preceeding four seasons are as follows :—-
