Warwickshire made 102 in its second venture, and Australia had three wickets down for 43 when rain put a atop to the play. AUSTRALIA v. MIDDLESEX. RAIN STOPS PLAY. London, Monday. The match between the Australians and Middlesex was commenced to-day. The sky was overcast when the game commenced, and the attendance was poor. The wicket was soft. Warner won the toss and sent in E. S. Littlejohn and the ex-Austra-lian Tarrant to face the bowling of Minnett and Whitty. Whitty got Littlejohn before he had scored. One for 6. J. W. ;Herne joined Tarrant and, with the score at one for 20, rain stopped play for 40 minutes —Tarrant 7 and Hearne 11.
On resuming, the wicket was easier. Hazlitt and Matthews replaced Whitty and Minnett, and the batsmen made a goud statrd till lunch, when the scorß was one for 50 —Tarrant 14, Hearne 31.
In the first over on resuming Tarrant was caught in' the Blips by Jennings off MattheWß—two for 56. Hearne had given a chance of stumping off Hazlitt. Warner was the incomer, and, after he had scored 3, rain came on and at two for 67 stumps were drawn for the day at 4 o'clock. Scores: — Middlesex, first innings. E. S. Littlejohn 0, F. Tarrant 20, J. W. Hearne not out 39, Warner not out 3, sundries s—total for two wickets 67. London, Tuesday. In consequence of continued rain there was no play to-day in the match, Australia v. Middlesex. The game will be resumed to-morrow at 11 a.m. AFRICANS v. CAMBRIDGE. London, Monday. The South Africans tommenced their match against Cambridge University to-day. The weather at the start was cloudy, and rain at the luncheon adjournment Btopped play for the day when Cambridge had scored 87 for five w>ckets —Knight not out 53 and Kidd 14, being the only batsmen to reach double figures. London, Tuesday. In the first innings the University made 130. South Africa loßt six wickets for 150 when rain put a stop to play.
