OTOROHANGA.
PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH PROGRESS. A meeting of those interested in the Presbyterian Church was held last week-end, to further the work of the church in this district and draw up a programme of advance for the winter months. Rev. A. Armstrong prosided, and called on the treasurer to present a balance-sheet of the conceit lately held on behalf of the Church Building Fund. After paying £2 as rental to the Methodist Church the substantial sum of £lO stands to the credit of the fund. It was decided to further augment this amount by holding a series of social evenings during the winter rnnoths at the full moon. A strong committor of ladies, under an energetic secretary, was formed to take this matter in hand, and thay decided to open with a "Book Evening Competition," to be held on Wednesday, June It was also decided to get thcChurch site fenced as quickly as possible, a hearty vote of thanks being accorded Mr Gregg for a gift of posts for that purpose, and also to Mr Strahan for the promise to undertake the work of erection.
The growing needs of the district Was discussed fully, there being an undoubted feeling that the town and district had reached the position which calls for the labours and attention of a minister settled in the district.
The Rev. A. Armstong explained that he had been deputed by the Waikato Presbytery and Dr Gibb, chairman of the Church Extension Committee, to canvass the whole district to see what financial assistance would be forthcoming in the event of Otorobanga being made a separate mission charge. It was felt that sufficient encouragement would be readily forthcoming. To place the church work on a permanent and organised basis a committee of management is being formed, which will attend to the business the business needs of the "church and congregation. The fact that such a "live" church as the Presbyterian is paying these attentions to this district is surely another of those little signs that the. long cherished hopes that Otorohangn is going "to move to the front" is certainly to be soon realised.
