OHURA SHEEP DOG TRIALS.
Retter weather could not have b en desired by the most exacting for the Ohura Dog Trial Club on May 7th and Bth. There was a good attendance of the public on both days, including a fa'ir number of ladies. Mr R. J. Carrie had kindly allowed the use of a portion of his farm for the purpose. The ground was rather difficult for dogs no! well up to the game, being rather narrow, and in one particular part of it the sheep got out of sight, with the result that in the local event several of the dogs lost the sheep altogether. However, the committee were in a quandary as to a suitable ground, owing to so much of the district still being dotted with stumps and logs, and they appreciate Mr Carrie's true sportsmanship in coming to the rescue. Some of the dogs in the open events did excellent work, which was an education to local owners —the chief object of the trials, and in pursuance, of whicti the club had offered prizes liberal enough to induce outside owners to bring along their experienced dogs. The club now has a membership ot at least 120. Several enthusiasts have given a guinea in addition to t'.ieir annual subesription of 255, and Mr T. J. Brennan, president, in addi tion to his subscription and guinea, also gave a gold medal for competition. The patron, Mr C. K. Wil-on.
