A petition bearing 51,093 signs* lures has been preaented to the South African Assembly praying for increased police protection, the establishment of compounds where natives may keep their wives, and also facilities for training female servants and the importation of European domestic:. The Government has refused to comply with the demand of Sir T. W; Smart, leader of the Unionist party, for a commission to inquire into the increased prevalence of assaults by natives upon white women.
