OTOROHANGA TOWN COUNCIL.
A meeting of the Otorohanga Town Council was held on May 15 th, at the council's office. There were present Messrs Ormbsy, Hosking, Elliott and Gardiner. As this was the first meeting of the new council, the town clerk presided. Mr Ormsby proposed that the meeting adjourn to Mr Vicary'B residence so that members may be sworn in as Mr Vicary had not recovered sufficiently from his illness to attend the j meeting. After arrival Mr Ormsby Baid that, as Mr Vicary had been returned at the head of the poll, and had a good knowledge of local politics, he would propose that Mr Vicary be chairman for the ensuing | period of office. Mr Vicary thanked the council for their kind feeling, but regretted he would have to decline the honour. Mr Elliott Baid that as Mr Hosking had come a good second at the election he wouli propose Mr Hosking as chairman. This was seconded by Mr Vicary, and aB there were no other nominations, Mr Hosking was delared chairman.
Mr Hosking thanked the memberß for the honour and confidence reposed in him, and the new chairman and councillors were then sworn in according to cußtom.
Mr Hosking proposed and Mr Ormeby seconded, that all council meetings be held for the future duringthe day time, instead of the evening, and that the day shall be the first Monday of each month at 2 o'clock. —Carried.
The chairman, in reply to a question, stated that a special meeting can be held at any time on the application of two members of the council. It was decided that Crs Ormiaby and Vicary sign the contractor's specifications and agreement for forming and metalling of the streets. The clerk was instructed to advertise in the papers in accordance with the Rating Amendment Act, 1910, that all rates outatanding for b period of over 14 days from the date of advertisement be sued for without delay. Proposed by Messrs Ormsby and Elliott, that the chairman interview the bank manager in connection with a joint and aeveral guarantee, and to arrange for making a progreas payment on loan account.
The council decided to contribute £lO annually to the Health Department in order to get the benefits under the Public Health Act.
On the motion of Messrs Ormsby and Gardiner, it was decided to adjourn the meeting until 5 o'clock at the council's office to mflet a deputation from the Chamber of Commerce.
