HOSPITAL FACILITIES.
THE KAWHIrt PROJECT
The matter of establishing a hospital at Kavvhia has been before the Hospital Board for some considerable time. At one meeting a motion in favour of the project was carried, but this motion was rescinded at a subsequent, meeting of the board. The Kawhia people being naturally anxious to promote the scheme, held a public meeting to consider the matter. Mr E. H. Schnackenberg. the chairman of the public meeting, wrote asking that the board erect a building suitable for a nursing home, towards which the residents would guarantee £2OO. the whole to be the property of the board. —The meeting agreed that an itinerant nurse would be useful, but thought a home with a resident nurse would be more useful and not entail an indefmile financial liability on the board. It was niso suggested that two nurses be engaged
A deputation consisting of Messrs Schnackenberg, Noonan, and Morris waited on the board in support of the resolution. —The chairman suggested that Mr Shaw give notice of motion for next meeting, the attendance being small. Messrs Chepmoll and Teasdale supported the suggestion, which was adopted. —■ Mr Schnackenberg explained to the board that it took a day to get a patient from Kawhia to Hamilton, and that, it costs .i'S. The board had already appointed a nurse at a salary of £l5O, but patients have to find accommodation at Mrs Morgan's boardinghous. There have, been more than fivepatients here at a time.
