At a certain prominent medical school in connection with one of our great hospitals there is a staff lecturer whose fad is enforcing the necessity of a doctor possessing the ability to snatch sleep at odd minutes. The professor, who. for his absorbing hobby in this particular direction has been nicknamed by the students, fond of him as they are in other respects, "Old Forty Winks," was the other day enlarging on his pet topic towards the close of a ninety minutes' long .lecture, something after this fashion : "And let me again impress upon you, young gentlemen, the extreme desirability of training yourselves to that invaluable habit of sleeping here, there, and everywhere, whenever- m unexpected quarter of an hour offers itself to recuperate what may be your otherwise exhausted energies. It may come anywhere, any timebut seize the opportunity whenever you feel you are bored, perhaps, with what is going on around you—when you feel your time is being unprofitably employed." And then, from the back bench of the school lecture theatre came two 'oud, unmistakable snores !
