A most successful concert was held in Turner's Hall on Thursday evening. The proceeds are to be devoted to fencing the Presbyterian Church section and also to repairing the fences of the Methodist Church in Mauiapoto street. Several performers from Te Kuiti came to assist, and the following programme was submitted: Doxoiogy; overture, Miss Ena Mooney; song, "The Scout," Mr Johnson; recitation, Mr Hudson; song. ''Sunshine and Rain,"encore "Recausn" Mrs Cowan; humorous recitation, Rev. A. Armstrong; duet, ''Very Suspicious," Mr and Mrs Pattison; song, "Fiddle and I," encore "The Wreath," Miss L. Johnston; recitation, Mr Hudson; song, "Ailsa Mine," encore "Two Eyes of Grey," Mrs Cowan: song, "The Village Blacksmith," Mr J, an.trmuir: Scotch sketches, Rev, Armstrong; duet, "Family Troubles," encore "Money Matters, "Mr and Mrs Pattison. After the concert a ladies' committee consisting of Mrs Strahan, Mrs Armstrong, Mrs Hall, Mrs Wiiyto and Mrs Cook provided a dainty supper. After supper nail driving competitions were held, Miss Morrissey winning the ladies'--a lace iichu and Messrs A. Cook (a plum cake) and Mr Bell (a shaving outfit) the gentlemen's. The gentlemen's prices were donated by Messrs Elliot and Mitchell and the ladies' prize by Mesdames Cook and Whyte. While the competitions were in progress a special request was sent to Mrs Cowan to sing again as a number of settlers had been away at a dairy association meeting, and had not heard the lady but her fame had spread. Mrs Cowan then sang "My Ain Folk," and as an encore "In My Garden" The audience was delighted with the programme, and departed at a late hour after giving three cheers for the performers.
