MAHOENUI-KAWHIA ROAD.
A WAITUNGURU DEPUTATION
One of the matters brought before the Minister for Public Works at Te Kuiti on Friday last was dealt with by a deputation introduced by Cr Were, in which the completion of the Mahoenui-Kawhia road was advocated. It was pointed out the settlers from Waitunguru were supplying the Te Anga dairy factory with cream and had to pack the supply a distance of seventeen miles. There was practically no road for a distance of ten miles, and it was urged that the road should be made to enable settlers to get to and from the factory. It was shown that the state of the road was a long standing grievance. About ten years ago the department in charge of the roading laid out a scheme for the construction of the Mahoenui-Kawhia road throughout, and work was commenced at both ends and in the centre. Before the scheme could be carried out work was suspended and the formed road in the centre is practically us-eless owing to the fact that a considerable distance of unformed road exists at each end. The existence of the road in its present state constitutes a standing reproach to the administration of the department, and repeated efforts have been made by the settlers to have the work completed The Minister took full particulars of the matter and proimsed to do what lay in his power to remedy the position.
