THE WET SEASON.

EFFECT ON FARMERS

The unfortunate season that has been experienced by settlers has been of serious moment to the bush farmers of the King Country. It has been so bad, indeed, that people settled on the bush lands, at any rate 90 per cent, of them, have been set back for a year. Throughout the length and breadth of the King Country a very large area of bush was felled, and only here and there was a burn secured, and in most cases these were very unsatisfactory. Besides the setting back, that is not the only loss incurred. There is the fact that the burn will not be a3 good next year, the loss of grass and turnips during the winter months on which the farmer was depending; the carrying out of subdivisionai fencing in many instances, and the large quantity of grass seed left on the hands of the farmer. All these things taken into consideration ccnvey an idea of the position. However, despite these facts farmers are taking it well, and a large number intend to feil large areas during the coming winter.
