IMPROVED FARM SETTLERS.
A REQUEST FOR WORK
A TANG ITU DEPUTATION
A deputation of Tang it" settlers of which Mr J. Guilford was spokesman was introduced to the Prime Minister yesterday by Mr C. K. Wilson, member for the district. Mr Guilford said the settlers in the block were in a bad position. About two months ago they were knocked off work and they had been told there was no more money available for road work. They were getting no returns from their sections and would not be able to do so until milking season commenced they were going in for dairying. In the meantime they had to live through the winter and were without means to do so unless work was provided.
Mr Wilson said he had been informed by the Under-Secretary, Mr Kensington, that the amount with which the block was loaded (£10,000) was exhausted. He urged that work should be provided for the settlers who in many instances had no roads to their sections. The land was as good as could be found in the Dominion, but until dairying started there was no chance of getting any return from it. The Minister promised to go into the matter at Wellington when means would be devised to give the relief asked for.
