In the Singer case trial, Brown, the ex-manager, k in a lengthy statement, said he Ijad built the company's Australian business up from £51,000 to £200,000 a year. His expenses were very heavy, and it was impossible to keep private accounts free of expenses accounts, but a record was kept of everything. Hiß overdraft had clearly shown the cash balances. If he had been allowed to go to New York he could have explained everything. Ho had in no way cheated or defrauded the company or induced anyone to do so. He declared MacPherson was absolutely innocent. He had simply carried out his instructions. MacPhereon, in a confirming statement, said he had acted only under instructions.
