Empoworinp Hill, a clause i;ivin>; the board power to acquire and control the ferry services of the port. the chairman (Mr Ounson) explained tliat the hoard recently had considerable trouble with the Ferry Companies and though larp.e sums had hen expended in their interests the companies were disnsfWied. The experience had led him to conclude the time had come when tho hoard should acquire permissive legislation to take over tho ferries as the mmiieipnlif.ies had resumed Hie tramways. Mr Alison, manager of the Devonport Ferry Company, and Mr Hradnoy, M.F., slronely opposed tlu ' li,l,<i(,n--but they were the only dissentient;-'.
