The Farmers' Auctioneering Company, Ltd., report: At Ngaruawahia on March 20th, we had an entry of 498 head of cattle and 7222 sheep. All the stock was in splendid order. There was a good enquiry, and with the exception of two bulls and about 70 rams, the whole yarding was disposed of at very fair prices, cattle selling in advance of late quotations. Fresh 3 year steers made £6 10s to £7 12s, same age without conditions £5 2s to £6, 2$ year steers £4 14s to £5 3b, 14 year steers £3 15s, fat cows £4 15s to £5 1256 d, good steer calves 36b to 445, medium calves 30s to 355, small sorts 22s to 265, large framed fullmouthed eWes in great condition 12b Id to 13s 6d, 6 tooth ewes 14s 3d to 14s lOd, 4 tooth ewes not so good in frame 12s 3d, good framed fullmouthed crossbred ewes 9s (id to 11b, older ewes 6s to Bs, 2 tooth halfbred ewes, small frames 9s 3d, cull lambs ss, fat and forward wethers 13b lOd to 14s 6d, store 2 tooth wethers 11b | 9d to 12s 6d, fat ewes lis 6d to 12s, Romney rams up to 3igns. At MorrinßVille on March 22nd, we had a yarding of 3767 sheep, and 334 head of cattle. Notwithstanding the large entry there was really good competition for the Bheep, and only a few lots were unsold. Cattle of all classes were required and nearly all were disposed of. Fat wetherß made 15s to 18s 3d, forward wethers 14s 6d, small Btore wethers lis 8d to 12s 6d, fat ewes 11b 5d to 12s 6d, fat eweß 11b 5d to 12a lOd, forward condition aged ewes 9s 4d to lis 6d, fat lambs shorn 10b 3d, fat woolly lambs 10s to 12b, forward lambs 8s to 9s 2d, aged store ewes 7s lOd, weaner pigs 16s, slips 20s to 30s, small fat steers £7 5s to £8 10s, fat cowb and heifers £5 4s to £6s ss, 18 month steers £3 l l s to £3 19s, 2J year steers £4 12s, good weaner calves 35s to 40s smaller sorts 26s to 30s, a few dairy cows forward in calf £6 2s 6d to £6 17s 6d, bulls £3 to £5 17b 6d.
On March 22nd we held a .clearing sale at Hairini on account of Mr T. J. Tye, and have to report a successful sale. Young and sound dairy cowb sold from £8 7s 6d to £9 sb, aged cows £5 to £6 15s, heifer calves £2 4s, choice calves, mixed sexcß £2 ss, porkers 355, weaners 15s to 17s 6d, furniture at usual prices. Messrs Dalgety and Co., Ltd., held Uieir usual tri-weekly sale in thß Hamilton yards on March 21st, when a good yarding of both sheep and cattle came forward. The Bale throughout was dull and both sheep and cattle came forward. They were hard to quit, with the exception of heifer beof, which sold readily under the hammer, and also pigs for which there was great competition. A good many lines, however, were Bold after the sale. Quotations: Fat heifers £5 14s to £6 Is, forward heifers £5 5s to £5 10s, dairy heifers £4 18s to £4 19s, small dairy heifers £4 7s to £4 13s, calves 34s 6d, fat ewes lis Gd, porkers 27s to 6s, silps 16s to 19s 6d, weaners 3b 6d to 13b 6d. Newton King reports:—At Stony River on the 20th, I had a good entry and attendance. A large number of bad coloured weaner and 18 months cattle were entered for sale, but did not obtain any competition. Two nice lots of 18 months cattle were yarded on account of Mr Chas. Andrews, and sold readily after good competiton. Quotations: — Mixed weaners 18s Gd to 245, weaner steerß IDs Gd, weaner heifers 23s 6d to 295, 18 months heifers in calf £3 15s, 2J year heifers £3 lis to £4 lis, 18 months steers £3 7s to £3 7s 6d, Hlore cows 24s to £3, forward cows £3 Sa Gd to £4 3s, fat cows £4 3b to £5 10a, dairy cows £7, fat wetherß 13a Bd. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., report:— At Ohura on March 19th, our entry comprsed 250 head of cattle and 2000 sheep. Bidding was rather dull at auction, although Bettlera present required stock, and a lot of business was done privately afterwards, and nearly a total clearance effected. Quotations: —2 to2 J year steers £4 to £4 78, 20 months steer* £3 8s to £3 10b, 2 year heifers been with bull £3 8s to £3 15s, 2 and 4 tooth wethers 10s to 13s, small shorn lambs 4s to ss, 6 and 8 tooth ewes 7s Id to 7s 6d, 4 and 6 tooth ewes 13s, full-mouth ewes 5s 6d to 6s sd, 2 tooth Romney ramp 2J to 3gns, 2 tooth Border Leicester rams 2gns.
