HIGH COMMISSIONER'S CABLEGRAM. Wellington, Monday. The High Commissioner's cable from London, dated March 16th, is as follows (quotations, unless otherwise specified, are average market prices on spot) : Generally, on account of the continuation oJ the coal strike, there has been no material change in the mar ket. Business is dull and prices nominal and unchanged from the past week. Mutton. Canterbury 4d, North Island 3§d. Lamb. —Canterbury s|d, other than Canterbury sd. Beef. New Zealand is not quoted. Butter. Choicest New Zealand 1275. Cheese. Finest New Zealand white 73s 6d, coloured 735. Hemp. —On spot New Zealand good fair grade £2l 10s, fair grade £2O 10s per ton; forward shipment of New Zealand good fair grade £2l 10s, fair grade £2O 10s. The output from Manila for the week was 15,000 bales.
Hops.—The market remains firm, on account of difficulty in obtaining supplies. English £l3, Californian £l2 per cwt. Messrs Dalgety and Co., Ltd , report:—We held our second Ohaupo sheep fair on Wednesday, 13th inst., when about 7000 sheep came forward. The sale opened very briskly with fat sheep and store wethers, which sold readily under the hammer at advanced prices. Competition was fair for lambs, and although they were successful in disposing of the remainder atfer the sale. Two tooth ewes were dull of sale, and only a few changed hands. There was again great competition for aged ewes, which sold mostly under the hammer, only those with ridiculous reserves being passed in. Altogether the fair was most successful, and good prices were maintained right through. We quote: • Fat ewes lis to 123, 2 tooth wethers, well grown 13s 4d to 14s 6d, 2 tooth wethers, small lis 8d to 123 9d, lambs, woolly 8s 3d to Ss 9d, lambs, shorn 5s to 7s, 2 tooth ewes 12s to 12s 6d, 4 tooth and 6 tooth ewes 12s 3d to 13s, 4 tooth and 5 year ewes 12s to 12s 6d, aged ewes 7s 7d to 9s 7d. The Farmers' Co operative Auctioneering Co., Ltd., report:—At Pio Pio on March 14th the joint stock sale was held, our entry comprising 215 head of cattle and 6951 sheep. All the stock were in really good order and of a good class. There was good competition and lair prices, and, with the exception of 1100 sheep ana a few head of cattle, the entry was disposed of. Best 2 tooth ewes made 12s 6d to 14s, fair 2 tooth ewes made 10s Gd to 12s, wethers 12s 9d to 15s 6d, 4 and 6 tooth ewes, rather small framed 10s to 12s, good soundmouth ewes 8s 6d to 10s 6d aged ewes 5s 6d to 7s 6d, good lamb 3, shorn 6s 6d to 7s lid, smaller 5s (3d to 6s, fifleshy 2£ year steers £o 5s to £5 14s, 2 year steers £4 to £4 103, one and a-half year steers £3 8s to £3 12s 6d, fat cows £5 to £5 12s 6d, cow with calves £5.
