AMUSEMENTS.

PROFESSOR SWALLOW'S CONCERT.

The full programme for Professor Swallow's concert in the Town Hall on the 21st inst., is given in this issue, and it is certainly the finest concert programme we have had in Te Kui'ti. The concert opens with dementi's grand trio-sonata for violin, 'cello, and piano, one of the most brilliant representatives of this class of composition. Three utber trios uf a similar standard, for the same instruments, are also announced, the artists being Mrs A. C. Johnson, Mr Bartiey and'professor Swallow. Two fine songg are clue from Mrs Darbyshirs, ore of them being the brilliant cavatina from "La Favorita." Mrs F. J. Quirk is responsible for the beautiful "Alia Stella Gonfidente," which will have a violoncello obligato by Mr Bartlay.. That fascinating air, the "Jewel Song" from Faust, is to be given by Miss Clifford; and a captivating duet for soprano and contralto, from "Lucrezia," is to be sung by Miss Clifford and Mrs Quirk. Two exquisite violin solos will be heard from Mrs A.. C. Johnson the first being the lovely "Etegie," by Ernst, and the second the charming air "Vane," by Rode. The two cutstanding features of Professor Swallow's pianoforte playing on this occasion will be Liszt's difficult and entrancing Hungarian rhapsody No. 2 and Chopin's magnetic Grande Polonaise, op. 53. The noble allegro from Bethoven's First Symphony will be played as a pianoforte duet by Professor Swallow and Mrs Quirk. It is a splendid programme and should draw a crowded house. It is seldom that we have the opportunity of listening to so well aranged a programme of music, Tickets are now on sale.
