By winning the Wanganui Cup in fast time Bronze established her claim to be classed among the best of her age in the Dominion. However, many will doubt her right to ocupy a position at the head of a handicap in company with Counterfeit. Neither of the fillies started in the Stakes in which they were handicapped on level terms, but it is safe to say Sir George Clifford's ;filly would have been the popular pick. The running of Dearest at Wanganui showed the sister to Master Soult in a very attractive light. A second in the Cup in very fast time, and a win in the Stakes against some proved performers went down to the credit of the filly. Dearest has hitherto been regarded as being more at home over sprint courses than at a distance, but her recent perfomances stamp her as an all-round performer of more than ordinary class. The victory of Ermengarde in the Jackson Stakes serves to justify the claims of her connections as to the filly's brilliancy. By running thu distance in 1.13 Ergmengarde has eclipsed all previous two-year-old performances, and her future career will be watched with interest. At the Victoria Racing Club's Autumn meeting on Saturday Wilari reproduced the form shown by her in the spring, when she accounted for the Derby. Wilari won the St. Leger from Jacamar, with Crown colt in third polace.
