MAROKOPA.
Matters in connection with the forthcoming sports, on March 15th, are well in hand. Provision ia being made to accommodate the large number of people expected. This summer quite an interesting little group of visitors has come to Marokopa. All have expressed themselves asreeably surprised with the scenery, and wish the Tourist Department would open a good horse track to the natural tunnel. The need for such a track has again and again been demonstrated, through parties failing to find the object of their search, viz. the tunnel. We know of three parties, headed by experienced bushmen, who for the first time in their lives, had to acknowledge defeat, and return disappointed. On her last trip the s.s. Pitoitoi, brought amongst other cargo, a consignment of telegraph poles. We trust it will not be long before the Kiritehere settlers are linked up to the civilised world by telephone. This will fill a long felt want. The victory of Sir Joseph Ward (which news was sent by special telegram from the Chronicle office), was received with mixed feelings. A second election is expected.
