ROTHSCHILD SHOT AT.
A POLICEMAN WOUNDED.

While Mr Leopold de Rothschild was entering a motor car outside hie offices in St. Swithsin's Lane a man fired three Bhots at him with a revolver. Mr de Rothschild was not hurt, but a policeman, who rushed in to arrest the would-be murderer, was wounded. The glass of the motorcar was shattered. Received March 5, 11.50 p.m. Mr Rothschild had a remarkable escape, two shots being fired point blank at the car. Detective Berg grappled with the assailant, who fired two more shots, shooting Berg in the throat. The man was arrested and gave his name as William Tebbitt. He is a Jew and is unknown to Mr Rothschild. It has been discovered that Tebbitt followed the occupation of a leather merchant's agent for ten years in Australia. He arrived from Melbourne in March last. His wife is still in Australia.
