TE KUITI TO KAWHIA.

DIRECT ROUTE ADVOCATED. At last night's meeting of the Chamber of Commerce mention was made by Mr Boddie of the desirability of having the road from Oparure to Waitomo Caves put through. Mr Boddie said that some time ago the Borough Council had received a request from the secretary of the Awaroa branch of the Farmers' Union to co-operate in urging the completion of the road from the Caves to Kawhia. The letter had been passed on to the Chamber of Commerce. Recently he had met the writer, Mr Babbage. who had informed him the settlers were extremely anxious to have the road properly opened up. It would give them access to the nearest stock centre on the railway at Te Kuiti and would be of great mutual benefit. Major Lusk said the matter uf the Oparure-Caves road had been brought before the Hon. T. Mackenzie, who informed them the Government was devoting its efforts to completing the Hangatiki-Caves road. Mr Boddie said that in order to avoid complicating the matter he would suggest that the Chamber should communicate with Mr Babbage with the view of assisting the settlers in his district in their efforts.—lt was resolved that the Chamber should cooperate with the Farmers' Union in any action they decided to take to further the matter. Mr Mussen said that it had been his fate to use the Oparure Caves track and he appreciated the necessity of having the road put through. It would open up a considerable area of Crown land. —He moved that the matter be urgently pressed on the notice of the authorities. The motion was seconded by Mr Johnson and carried unanimously.
