KING COUNTRY RIFLE ASSOCIATION.

The King Country Rifle Association held its second annual meeting on Saturday and Monday, February 24th and 26th, at Matapuna, under weather conditions which were well nigh perfect, and contributed to the general enjoyment. Owing t.o various reasons the entries did not come up to those received last year. The continued Wet season in the country district, and the failure of the Trentham meeting being perhaps the chief cause. Sergt.-Major Maingay, of Te Aroha, acted a range officer, and got the matches oil* promptly and without friction.

The service targets which were used up to 600 yds, were not favourably received by marksmen, the opinion of one and all being that the adoption of these targets by the defence authorities is responsible for the absence of more than half of the usual number of competitors at Trentham this year.

The Teams' Match, with which goes the Taumarunui Tradesmen's Challenge Shield was fired on Monday. The present holders, the Ohura Defence Rifle Club, were again successful, winning by the handsome margin of 17 points from the local team.
