FIFTH TEST CONCLUDED.

ENGLAND WINS BY 70 RUNS. By TclcKraph—l'ress Association—Oopyrijr&t Sydney, Friday. The fifth test has concluded, the visitors winning by 70 runs. The play extended over a week in consequence of the rain. Yesterday afternoon the ground was a veritable lake of water. This morning, however, the sun shone and a steady breeze had a wonderful effect, although when the game was resumed it was purely a bowler's wicket, being very sticky. Almost every ball bumped high. Armstrong and Minnett resumed to Woolley and Barnes. Both played with great care before lunch. After the interval the wicket became somewhat better, but was still sticky in patches. Armstrong added 10 to his overnight score, then hit out at a yorker from Barnes, and was bowled. Ransford started by lifting Woolley to the track, but the Bame bowler broke his wicket after the Victorian had scored 9. Minnett played very carefully, intent upon keeping up his wicket till the pitch improved. When he had scored 61 in 132 minutes, he cut Barnes hard and Wolley, in the slips, took an extraordinary catch. Minnett hit nine fours. Macartney and Carter then came together and brought up 250 aB a result of 281 minutes' play. Rhodes Relieved Woolley for two overs, but 17 runß were knocked off them, so Woolley was put back and Fotser took the other end from Barnes. Macartney hit a rising ball from Foster, which went straight to Woolley at fine leg. A couple of overs later Carter waß out with an exactly similar stroke. Hordern and Hazlitt were in at tea time but almost immediately after resuming Hordern was run out. Hazlitt was very shaky. He hit an easy one to Rhodes at square leg off Foster, and England had won by 70 runs. Scores.—Trumper 50, Gregory 40, Hill 8, Armstrong 33, Ransford 9, Minnett 61, Macartney 17, Carter 23, Ilordurn 4, Hazlitt 4, McLaren not out 0, sundries 33—total 292.
