BOROUGH COUNCIL AND SUBDIVISION OF MR BODDIE'S PROPERTY.
To the Editor. Sir,—Will you kindly allow me space for a few remarks on the above subject. The question of the approval or otherwise by the Council of the plan submitted has been before them for many months, and as far as I am concerned, no decision has been made. I have received no communication from the Council in reply to my letter. I have heard from the "man in the street," that the matter was referred to a Works Committee, and so far as I am concerned there it rests. In the meantime I cannot submit my scheme to the Chief Surveyor, nor can the owner deal with his property. This state of affairs is manifestly most unbusinesslike and great injustice is being: perpetrated. I have also heard on the aforesaid authority that the committee have recommended that the road named Quarry road should be continued to the N.E. boundary, so that the owner of the contiguous property may continue the same to the Mangaorino road if he so desires. I may mention that if the road should be so laid out it would be useless to the public for wheel traffic on account of the steep grade. To raise the grade of the present road through Mr Boddie'a would, when ths road is formed, cau3e the destruction of a little bush that the owner especially desires to retain in its natural state. The road would, if carried through the contiguous property, he most expensive to make, most unsightly, and in my opinion would destroy the value of that portion of the section. In addition to the above reasons against it, the road would be so close to Tawa street that no object of public utility or convenience would be attained. Furthermore, I am not aware that, the adjoining o>vncr has expresed any desire for the road, and should he at any time wish to sub-divide his property, he has very much better means of supplying access to the Mangaorina road than by the one favoured by the Works Committee, and at much less cost. I am, etc., R. C. JORDAN. Te Kuiti, February 21st, 1912.
