OTOROHANGA.

LOANS FOR STREETS GRANTED

The Town Council have received word from the Government Advances Board that the application for a loan of £2USO for formation work and for metalling the streets in the township has been provisionally approved of. LOAN FOR COUNCIL OFFICES AND HALL REFUSED. When applying for a loan for the streets the council also applied for a loan of £ISOO to buy a section and to build a public hall and council's offices. The Advances Board wrote that they would not approve of that luiin. On receipt of the information the Town Council held a special meeting and Mr Yicary moved that having re j ceived the provisional approval of the J Advances Board to the prpoosed loan of £2050, immediate steps be taken to carry out the necessary formalities to secure the said loan, and that Mr C. J. Johnson bs returning officer for the purpose of the poll. The council also decided to instruct the engineer to call for tenders as soon as possible for the work embraced in his estimate, the tenders to close the day atfer taking the poll. The'council have decided that the night soil area is to include each side of the following streets: —Turongo, Maniapoto, Tuhora, Ballance, Eanfur ly and Kanawa street, and to include the school and residence, also section S Hinewai street, the levy to be fixed at 6d per week for removal of each pan. The chairman is authorised to order 105 pans and 25 lids of a pattern to be selected and the price to each householder to be not more than 15s. Sir James Carroll is to be asked to get the Governor to authorise the Otorohanga Council and give that body power to levy and collect a dog tax in the township.
