WAIKATO HOSPITAL CHRISTMAS FUND.

The many subscribers to Mrs W. A. Graham's one shilling Christmas fund for the Waikato Hospital will ba pleased to learn that the amount collected this year reached the satisfactory total of £95 15s. Mrs Graham and Mrs Douglas purchased a present for each of the 96 patients in the hospital—old and young—consisting of shirts, ties, dressing jackets, fans, books, toys, pipes, and tobacco, and many other articles useful and ornamental. Strawberries were provided as they came in for all who could have them, and some also went to the Old Men's Home. The old people also shared in the cakes, fruit and "goodies" of all sorts suitable to the festive season which were liberally provided both for Christmas and New Year. In connection with this Mr Burn Smith sent up a present of small good 3 for which the committee wish to thank him. A number of new records have been purchased for the gramaphons in the Old Men's Home selected by the Rev. Cowie and Mr Holmes, manager, a special collection being made by Miss Casey for this purpose. Mrs Graham and Mr Valder desire to thank all those who co-operated and collected in Hamilton, suburbs and out districts and the managers and secretaries of sawmills up country, and the miners of Huntly for their willing help, thus making this Christmas at the Waikato Hospital one of the brightest they have had, and one to be long remembered by those who were in this institution. The Nurses' Home, under the capable matron, Miss Rottiwell, were also remembered by many ex-patients who sent along cakes, fruit, etc, remembering the attention they had received in the past from the nurses—numbering 28.

After paying for the Christmas gifts, "goodies," etc, there remained the sum of £4B, which Mrs Graham and Mr Valder have decided to hand over to the Hospital Board to complete the payment for the X-rays equipment which was ordered last year, and which will shortly arrive. This amount will carry a Government subsidy of 24s in the £, and it is estimated that this will be sufficient with the amount contributed by this fund last year to nay off the whole cost of the X-ray installation.
