TE KUITI BOROUGH COUNCIL.

A meeting of Te Kuiti Borough Council was held on Monday evening. There were present —His Worship the Mayor (Mr Jas. Boddie), and Crs Lusk, Tammadge, Julian, Somerville, Hardy, Young and Forsvth. Cr Young took his place and was reinstated on the committees he had formerly been connected with. The Spiral Pipe Company wrote with reference to the balance of their account.—On the motion of Crs Forsyth and Hardy, it was resolved that the account be paid. Letters were read from Mr H. H. Mectalf in connection with the dramage were received. —The Mayor said he had met Mr Metcalf, who had fixed his price for supervision, and the providing of a clerk of works at £250. He had accepted Mr Metcalf's terms and requested the Council's endorsement of his action. —On the motion of Crs Julian and Young the Mayor's action was confirmed.

Mr J. Hacket requested permission to erect a new bridge in front of his residence. —Permission granted. Dr Paxton wrote drawing attention to the necessity of a better bridge opposite his residence, Waiteti road. Cr Forsyth said the matter had been recommended by the Works Committee. —The clerk explained that the engineer thought the matter was beyond his province, and nothing had been done. —Cr Forsyth proposed that the engineer be instructed to prepare plans and specifications for forming and metalling Waiteti road to Dr Patxo.n's. —Seconded by Cr Young arid carried.

Drainage on Rata Street.- Mr J. A. Johnston wrote with respect to drainage from his house tu Rata street, stating he would willingly assist the Council in any reasonable scheme suggested for the disposal of same. —Received and referred to the Sanitation Committee to report.

Inspector Bennett, of the Health Department, wrote, stating the infectious diseases notified from Te Kuiti during 1911 were: —Scarlet fever, 2 removed to hospital 2; diphtheria, 2 —0; enteric, 2—2; erysipelas, I—o. In the case of enteric one was notified as suspicious, but the suspicion was not confirmed under observation. The other case was imported from the country, but notified from Te Kuiti. There is, therefore, no enteric originating in the town. R. and P. Cotter wrote drawing attention to the existence of a bad hole in front of their shop.—The clerk reported the matter had been attended to. The secretary of Te Kuiti School Committee wrote, complaining of the manner in which the closets were being attended to. —The clerk was instructed to write to the sanitary contractor requesting that the school closets be regularly attended to. The Audit-Inspector wrote stating the Council would be quite in order in refunding an advance made in 1911-12 out cf rates received in 1912-13. —Received.

Cr Forsyth gave notice of motion to the effect that the motion standing in the minutes of the Council providing that work in the borough should only be done by contract be rescinded.

Dog Tax.—The dog tax was fixed at the same rate as last year: 2s Gd for sheep and cattle dogs and 10a for other dogs. W. Cantlon was appointed collector. Noxious Weeds.—The inspector of noxious weeds gave final notice with respect to clearing the Esplanade.— It was resolved that the tender of £3O for clearing the Esplanade be accepted. A New Road.—Mr Fitzherbert's applications for the Council's approval of his sub-division was held over pending the inspection of Mr Boddie's and Mr Fitzherbert's properties with a view to having the roads connected. Tenders.—The tender of Messrs Lewer and Mitchell of £305 16s 9d for the formation of King street, John street, and other roads was accepted. Foreman of Works.—lt was decided to advertise for a foreman of works tor the Council at a salary of £4 per week.

Quarry Site.—On the motion of Crs Lusk and Tainmadge it was resolved that the clearing of the quarry site should be gone on with at once. The reports of the Works and Legal and Fniance Committees were adopted.
