CORRESPONDENCE.
To the Editor,
Sir,—Ee letter inserted in your last issue respecting the ill-treatment of dumb animals by "A Lover of Animals." From a humanitarian point of view I, as a "man in the street," cannot see anything amiss. Of course, the writer alluded to may probably be ignorant of the uses and abuses of dumb animals, you will understand this is only a conjecture of mine. I think the "Lover of Animals" is a bigot, which is only begotten by crass, ignorance, or with dull intellect. The horses are dealt with in a manner befitting the career they are intended for, which may be either for ploughing, driving, or for riding, and as to horse rushing, I am intensely surprised at the assumed knowledge of the said writer. Perhaps he is a man who is not conversant with the handling of wild horses, otherwise he would not be so down on the plupky young fellows who devote their time endeavouring to break in and catch horses for the district generally; instead of importing highly priced horses from sales, etc. —I am, etc., ONE WHO KNOWS.
