OHURA COUNTY COUNCIL.

MONTHLY MEETING The monthly meeting of the Ohura County Council was held in the Council Chambers, Mangaroa, on the 24th inat.. Present—Crs Loveday (chairman), Kelly, Sandison, Goldfinch, Sowry, Lyon, and Heyward. Correspondence from the Public Works Department was received as follows: Kururau Road.—The vote for this road has been over authorised to enable the work to be proceeded with. Waikaka Road —lt is proposed to build two Bmall bridges and two culverts opposite section 26, block 11, Aria Survey District. —The matter will be attended to at an early date. Contract No. 35, widening two miles has been approved. Hapurua Road. —This contract has been passed and a claim may be made for the amount. Waitewhena Road.—Authority for £570 has been issued. Pura Road. —Permission has been granted to divert thirds from Waitewhena road to this road. Tatu Thirds.—The Commissioner of Crown Lands wrote that the board required the council to expend thirds as approved by the board enclosing letter from the of the Ohura Co-operative Dairy Co. Toroto Road.—R. G. Carrie wrote requiring the amount of thirds spent on this road County Valuation—A revision of the county valuation is impracticable for 1912-13. All information will be given so as to ennble the roll to be made as complete as possible. Waitaanga Telpehone.—Under the new conidtions the subsidy required is £2O for five years and the line will be erected on the council giving the required guarantee. Matiere Pound. The Land Board has granted a site in section 19, block 15. Opatu Block. —Application was received from settlers to be included in the Ohura County. Rubbish Depot, Mangaroa. The Land Board u willing to consider the granting of a site. Matapuna Bridge.—Notice was received giving date and place of the inquiry into the allocation of the cost of maintenance. Waitangata road is available and granted to the council. Hapurua and Mangakara. —Authority is available for these roads. Kopuha and Matiere-Miroahuiao-Matiere. The Under-Secretary is communicating with the Resident Engineer with the view of ascertaining whether there is any objection to the grants being transferred to the Council for expenditure. Ohura River Bridge. Authority for £SO 13s lid has been issued to the council. Tongaporutu-Mangaroa Road.—All the votes on this road ia in the hands of the engineer for expenditure. The question of paying for the legal opinion obtained by the chairman regarding the legality of the election of the chairman was considered. Crs Sowry and Goldfinch moved that the action of the chairman be approved. Crs Lyon and Kelly moved an amendment that the council not having authorised the chairman to incur the expense repudiate the matter. Crs Lyon and Sandison explained the position and condemned the action of the chairman in ignoring the council. The chairman denied the various charges, and after a very stormy argument, adjourned the .meeting until Cr Lyon withdrew the statement that he (the chairman) was trying to run the council on his "own" After the adjournment, Cr Lyon refused to withdraw, and business proceeded. It was resolved that the county clerk attend the court on February Ist to assist the county solicitor in connection with the Manauui bridge assessment. The guarantee of £2O was authorised to connect the telephone to Waitaanga. Permission was granted to W. Sandison to ercet poles for telpehone wire from Niho Niho post office to his residence along the Waikaka road. Revaluation.— Decided that revaluation of the county be held over for the present. Thirds on Section 2, Block, Ohura Survey District.—The commissioner wrote instructing the council to expend thirds no this section as scheduled. It was decided to ask for a grant of £ls from the Public Works Department to subsidise thirds to metal between Paorae saddle track and Tatu. Mr W K. Williams waited on the council to have the wishes of the council made clear as to the amount of formation nad metalinlg required in No. 1, Mangaroa townßhip.—Resolved that a committee be set up to deal with the matter.

He requested to have crossings placed over the drains at Huhahati Flat.—Permission granted. Waitangata road contract was let to Bond Bros., and Hapunua to H. Chapman. Dog Tax.—Resolved that the tax be 28 6d for Bheep and cattle dogs, 10s for sporting and fancy dogs. —Mr Martin's tender for the supply of collars was accepted. Mangaroa Township Extension.—• Resolved that the chairman and Crs Kelly and Goldfinch confer with Mr Williams as to the roading required.

Rating Native Land. Resolved that the chairman and clerk proceed to Auckland to obtain the names of leaseholders for rating purposes.

Street Forming and Drainage of Mangaroa.—Resolved that the chairman be authorised to have the township surveyed and the Iveels taken for dainage.
