ACCIDENT AT TANGITU.
A serious accident happened to a settler named Williamson, who was workng at bushfalling near Tangitu on Saturday. As a tree was falling it hit another and knocked a piece of wood off the side ; which struck Williamson on the upper lip penetrating his nose. The wood was pulled out hy another settler working with him who stitched his lip up. Wililamson bled so much that his mate thought it advisable to have him carried to Waimiha for Taumarunui Hospital, and forty of his fellow-workers took it in relays to carry him, the journey occupying three and a-half hours, arriving at midday on Sunday. At Waimiha, difficulties were experienced in getting the use of a jigger, and were not overcome until £4 had been paid for the use of one. Two of his mates with the jigger took a further 2J hours to reach Taumarunui, where Williamson was taken to the hospital, and is now progressing as satisfactorily as can be expected.
