PRESBYTERIAN SUNDAY SCHOOL PICNIC.

There was a very large attendance of children and adults at the Presbyterian Sunday School picnic, which was held on the racecourse at Te Kumi on Monday last. The catering was well attended to by the parents, its flxcellence being attested to by the expedition with which "picnic justice" was meted out to the nice things provided. After lunch a very interesting programme of sports was indulged in by children and adults. The various races were well contested, some of the finishes being very close anu exciting. Every child in the school received a prize, while contests were also held for outsiders and also the Maori children attending. A number of special prize 3 provided were strongly contested for with the following result:—Young ladies' race—Miss McDonald; married ladies, Mrs Snowsill; open married ladies, Mrs Bailey; young men's, N, Evans 1, Rev. A. Armstrone 2; married men's, Mr Snowsill; boys under 16, Tbeo. Langmuir; girls under 16, Jessie McDonald 1, Maggie Gillanders 2; boys under 12, Gordon Reid; under 10, Clive Langmuir; ladies'nail driving, Mrs Sellars. Everything was going along splendidly until unfortunately a severe thunderstorm broke with a deluge of rain about 3.30 p.m. just as the best part of the day was being entered and everybody was in high spirits. Most of the picnickers were wet through and had to make their way home by various means as quickly as possible." This caused a collapse to what otherwise was a very enjoyable gathering. The thanks of the school is given to all the parents and workers who helped to make the treat successful, also to the kind friends who donated special prizes, and to Messrs Cooper, Smith and Black for carting the necessaires to and from the racecourse, and Mr Grinter for cordials, etc.
