HOW TO PLANT A TREE.
The trees should be set a little leeper in the soil than they stood in the nursery row, or where previously sjrown. The soil must be worked in underneath| the large roots and ed about them. The top of the tree should be leaned slightly to the iorth-west. This enables the tree to esist the hard north winds and be:ore the end of the first season the tree will be standing in an erect position. It is a good plan to shake ;he tree several times while tamping ;he dirt around the roots and to pour water about the root in order ;o bring the soil in contact with svery bit of root surface. After the water has been poured on, anothei Inch or two of dry soil and good surface should be thrown about the •;ree to prevent bakiag.
